Save even more with proper insulation...

  • Insulation and home sealing, with special focus in the attic and around access panels, windows and doorways, is an important measure to reduce home energy costs.
  • Place nonflammable insulation or nonflammable pliable materials in gaps around pipes, ducts, fans or other items that enter the attic or basement from a conditioned space.
  • Close dampers on unused fireplaces. If not used for long periods, add insulating material around the perimeter of the damper. Glass doors can also be very efficient in reducing heat loss.
  • Caulk or tape any leak in ductwork used by the cooling or heating systems.
  • Raise shades to allow sunlight to enter your home during the day. Close shades on overcast days and at night when no warm sunlight is shining.

Digital Thermostat
DID YOU KNOW?
You can save 2% - 3%
for each degree you
are able to lower your
thermostat.
  • Install a programmable thermostat and program it.
  • Set the thermostat control setting for your furnace at 68 degrees Fº or lower during the heating season.
  • Set back your thermostat by 5 or 10 degrees when sleeping or when your house is empty for four hours or longer.

  • Request an Energy Star rated model when replacing a new gas furnace or boiler because Energy Star rated products are proven to be more energy efficient.
  • Clean or replace air filters regularly for optimum performance to save energy.
  • Have your gas furnace cleaned and serviced by a professional for greater efficiency and safety.
  • Use a humidifier; the extra humidity will make the air feel warmer.
  • Use ceiling fans to circulate air and will make your home more comfortable. They should run counter clockwise so warm air is pushed to the outside walls.
  • Make sure air vents and returns are not blocked by drapes or furniture and keep the vents clean.
  • Close off unoccupied rooms by shutting the vents and doors.
